Petition backing the Ipswich Inner Northern Route launched

The Orwell Ahead group, which champions the Greater Ipswich area and the Orwell Corridor, has launched a petition on Change.org in support of the 'inner' option shared by the council as part of the public consultation on the Ipswich Northern Route.

The launch comes after the Stop the Ipswich Northern Bypass group announced a petition to campaign against the council's proposals.

Orwell Ahead says it prefers the inner route option because it will save more journey hours than the middle or outer options and it will also save on C02 emissions compared to other options. The group believes the inner route will also relieve stress on the congested southern bypass and Ipswich's interior roads, improving transport in and round the town.

The people of Ipswich and surrounding areas are fed up, and have been fobbed off for nearly 25 years. If we are expected to shoulder the burden of population, housing, transport and freight, then we need the infrastructure and highways to do the job.

The public consulation on the Ipswich Northern Route will run until Friday September 13th, with six drop-in sessions still to come across the county where residents can have their say.
